Dog Days of Summer
August 26 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
DOGust 1st is the official birthday for any shelter pets whose date of birth is unknown. While it was a few days ago, August 1 is now a globally-accepted holiday that gives these amazing animals their much-needed support and recognition! Therefore, we are celebrating the entire month of DOGust for making sure as many dogs as possible get safe, loving homes.
To do our part for DOGust at the SoDu Farmers’ Market, we are hosting the Dog Days of Summer on August 26th from 8am-12pm. We will have 2 different dog adoption agencies there – the Carolina Adopt-A-Bulls Rescue out of Durham and the Farm Friends Rescue out of Sanford.
The Animal Protection Society of Durham is eager to work with dog owners in our community on the benefits of using an Easy Walk Harness or Martingale Collar, over the use of a prong or choke collar. Dog owners who currently use a prong/choke collar and are interested in exploring the benefits of an Easy Walk Harness may visit the APS of Durham table to exchange your prong/choke collar for an Easy Walk Harness while supplies last. We will help you learn about the benefits most dog owners experience with the Easy Walk Harness, will fit your dog for the appropriate size, and keep your currently used prong/choke collar in exchange. For anyone else who is interested in learning more about the Easy Walk Harness or the Martingale Collar, please stop by the APS of Durham table. We will have a limited number of Easy Walk Harnesses available for purchase while supplies last.
Some of our vendors will also be selling dog treats (Ninth Street Bakery makes some awesome ones), the cooking club may be doing a dog treat demo, there will be spay/neuter information, and we have some room for crafters that may create dog collars, harnesses, kerchiefs or other dog merchandise. If you would like to be considered to be a part of our Dog Days of Summer, email me at [email protected]!
