Volunteer for SDFM

Volunteers are what “Cultivating Community”  is all about!

From groups to individuals – and no matter what level of commitment you have in mind – the South Durham Farmers’ market is happy to have your help.  Currently, we have volunteers ranging in age from 10 to 70 years old who are helping with a wide range of activities – and we hope that you will be one of them.

Volunteer Positions include:

Market set-up and/or Tear-down

Arrive before the market opens and help set up the managers’ tent, place cones and signs around the market, and possibly help vendors set up.  This requires about an hour of work (max) at the beginning or end of market days.

Help Represent us on Market Days!

Hang out at the market manager’s tent and greet shoppers, help sell market swag, and generally make the market a fun experience for everyone.  It’s okay if you don’t know all the answers – there will always be somebody at the market that you can direct people toward for more information. Sign up for a minimum of one hour and the time will fly by as you enjoy the live music and friendly faces.

Children’s Activities

We are actively looking for a long-term commitment for somebody to coordinate and be at the market to organize activities for the children of the community. If you, or a group that you are involved with, are interested in doing this, please be in touch for more information!

Signage

Have you ever seen the little signs around town on market day? We are looking for people that live near where the signs are each week that will put them up and take them down on market days, spreading the word to the community. Even if you can only commit to one sign near your neighborhood, that can be a huge help for the market!

Music

We are always looking for local live music on market days!

Adopt-a-market

Do you belong to a group that wants to contribute through community service? Select a market day and “Adopt” the market by setting up and running the manager’s tent, hosting a market-related educational activity, and providing smiling faces on market day. Of course, a knowledgeable market manager will be on-site, so you aren’t all on your own! Come to us with your own ideas, or we can provide some for you, and make the market part of your organization’s community service.
